Alappuzha: 400 houses built for flood-affected

According to the administration, 1,261 appeals have been settled.

Alappuzha: The district administration said that at least 400 new houses have been built under the Rebuild Kerala project in the flood-affected areas of the district.

According to the administration, 1,261 appeals have been settled. As many as 1,822 houses were destroyed completely in the district. Out of this, 1,196 families have submitted consent to take up the construction work. All of them have been paid the first instalment.

While at least 532 families were given second instalment, 266 were given third instalment. Work on 132 houses has been completed under ‘self-construction’ category. 201 houses will be constructed under the Care Home project introduced by cooperative department. Out of this, work on 30 has been finished. First instalment to 131 disbursed.

Sponsors have come forward to construct at least 425 houses. Of this, 238 have been completed. Three families had lost both houses and land while 16 houses in poramboku land were destroyed. For them, 58.28 cents land has been acquired, said the district administration.
