Lok Adalat disposes of 66,000 cases in Telangana

Of these, around 58,000 cases were pending and included 56,500 criminal cases and 1,500 civil cases

Hyderabad: About 66,000 cases were disposed of throughout the state in the National Lok Adalat conducted here on Saturday. Of these, around 58,000 cases were pending and included 56,500 criminal cases and 1,500 civil cases. The remaining were pre-litigation cases.

In Hyderabad district alone, 16,633 cases were disposed of, said Y. Renuka, member secretary of Telangana State Legal Services Authority. In Telangana High Court, two benches presided by Justice P. Naveen Rao and Justice G. Sri Devi respectively disposed of 149 cases and Rs 3. 82 crore was awarded as compensation benefitting about 470 persons in cases of motor accident claims and CMA workmen compensation.

Murali Mohan, secretary of Legal Services Authority of City Civil Courts at Hyderabad, said 695 civil pending cases were disposed of in all civil courts in the twin cities. Around Rs 18.27 core was awarded to beneficiaries as compensation.

Apart from bank debts and BSNL recovery cases, motor accident and insurance claim cases, the civil courts gave priority to solving family dispute cases. Four couples, who were locked in legal battles, reunited following counselling conducted by the judges of city civil courts.
