When the cast and crew of a Telugu film was announced a couple of days ago, Bindu Madhavii’s name was the surprise on the list. The last film the actress did was Pilla Zamindar, starring Nani, in 2011.
“I can’t believe it’s been a decade since I signed a Telugu film,” she says. “It’s not that I shied away from doing Telugu films; I just couldn’t get something exciting enough,” she shares. “My parents, friends and relatives kept telling me to do one Telugu film. I am glad I got a good script in my mother tongue,” she adds.
Directed by newcomer Sree Chaitu, the yet-to-be-titled film is a love story and shooting will start soon. “We are trying to understand the scripts and the character arcs,” says Bindu.
Over the last decade, Bindu, who was born and raised in Madanapally, has become a star performer in the Tamil film industry. “I did my engineering in Chennai, and also my initial modelling assignments there, so I have a great emotional connection to the city,” she reveals.
It’s been 13 years since Bindu made her showbiz debut with Avakai Biryani in 2008. A rank outsider, the actress is proud of her work in films. “I am happy with the way my journey has progressed. Even if it has been slow I am OK, because I am a laid-back woman. I relish taking one thing at a time,” she explains.
While admitting that she made mistakes in the initial stages of career, the actress says, “But isn’t that a part of the learning process? Initially I did not know where to start and what to prioritise — whether scripts, banners, screen time, etc. I was experimenting with all these things.”
As she progressed, she realised that picking a good script is the key to success. “I wish I had this realisation early,” she quips.
Asked to share the secret of her longevity in the industry, Bindu says constantly working to live her dream of acting keeps her going. “You have good days and bad days, but ultimately what matters is job satisfaction. Nothing can motivate you better than self-gratification. I am lucky that I still have it in me even after so many years,” she says, signing off.
