Amazon sees 50 per cent more sales this year

Kicking off the first road show in the capital, the senior officials of Amazon India said they would hold similar shows across regions.

New Delhi: Braving the slowdown in consumption demand, e-commerce major Amazon India is eyeing 50 per cent more sales in the festive season this year. The company, which is starting its mega festive sale from September 29 to October 4, is expected to showcase lakhs of products in various categories, including 5,000 products in large appliances and furniture categories.

“As we have overall over 200 million products in our basket in all categories, we generally have 1.5 times sale year-on-year basis. So we hope over 50 per cent more sale this year than the previous year. We will add lakhs of products this year in which 5,000 new products would be in large appliances and furniture categories,” Amazon India Director (Large Applian-ces and Furniture) Suchit Subhas told Financial Chronicle on Monday.

Kicking off the first road show in the capital, the senior officials of Amazon India said they would hold similar shows across regions.

“Despite the demand slowdown, I don’t see any negative effect on consumers as brands are lining up new products for the festive season ahead with cheaper and affordable rates,” Subhas said, adding that Amazon expects maximum customers to come from smaller cities and towns this time.

It is learnt that mobile brands like Samsung, Xiaomi and OnePlus and large appliance and TV makers will launch their products on Amazon’s platform.

“Varieties of products, both high-end as well lower priced items are in the queue from reputed brands. We expect these brands will sell using our platform and this festive season, like Diwali, will prove to be a far bigger one for us,” he said.

Amazon is upbeat about its furniture business. “Customers typically look to upgrade their homes in the festive season. We have added more than 60,000 products this year to offer the largest selection of furniture,” he said.

“Around 25 per cent of the company’s furniture buyers use finance schemes like no-cost EMI. Over 65 per cent of sales are coming from customers beyond the metros, from cities such as Nasik, Raipur, Vellore, Udupi, Kota, Kollam and Palakkad,” he said.

He said the company now delivers goods within 48 hours in the top 10 cities and within two-three days in the top 25 cities.
