Pakistan can’t take issue of Kashmir to ICJ: Pakistan’s Law Ministry

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Law Ministry on Friday told Prime Minister Imran Khan that the government of Pakistan cannot take Kashmir issue to International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The ministry has suggested to raise the matter in United Nations General Assembly or Security Council so that it can be referred to the ICJ “through proper channel.”

The ministry said there was no agreement present between Pakistan and India regarding taking Kashmir issue to ICJ.

The recommendation came after federal government had asked the law ministry to brief over the criteria of moving ICJ over Kashmir conflict.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the government had decided to take Kashmir case to the ICJ, adding that the decision was taken after considering all legal aspects.

Mr Qureshi says Kashmir was under strict communication blackout and the world should take notice of this.

The Foreign Minister said public life in Pakistan Administrated Kashmir is free, while around four thousand Kashmiris have been detained in Kashmir by the Indian forces.

He said there was no bar on internet, TV broadcasts, mobile service, and publication of newspapers in PAK, while “situation is totally opposite in Kashmir.”
