Filipino maid raped by Saudi Arabian employer, breathes last in hospital

Riyadh: A Fhilipino woman, who worked as a maid in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh city, died at King Salman hospital following a sexual attack by her employer, raising fresh concerns over the working conditions of domestic workers in Gulf countries.

According to a reports, the victim identified as Imra Edloy, was rushed to the hospital on August 17 with severe injuries which doctors suspected were a result of sexual assault.

Soon after being admitted to the hospital, Edloy slipped into coma. However, before she lost consciousness, she pointed at her employer when asked about her attacker.

Medics said that Edloy suffered cardiac attacks several times, but was revived. But, on August 18, she breathed her last.

In their statement to the authorities, nurses said that Edloy's underwear was covered in blood when she was first admitted to the hospital.

An investigation into the matter has been launched and authorities are probing sexual assault angle.

This is not the first time a maid has been assaulted in Saudi Arabia. Earlier this year, an Indian-origin woman jumped from the first floor of the balcony of her employer's residence in Dammam, a month after she started working there in March. The woman claimed that her employers made her life a living hell.
