Egyptian leader says 'men sexually weak', so women must undergo circumcision

Agina said it is better for women to undergo FGM to reduce their sexual apetite and stand by their man.

Cairo: An Egyptian lawmaker has said that women must undergo genital mutilation as the men in the country are sexually weak and cannot meet increased demands in the bedroom.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the lawmaker, Elhamy Agina, said that the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) would help in reducing the sexual desires of women in the country.

FGM is a practice involving partial or full removal of a woman's external sex organs to control her sexuality.

Agina also argued that Egypt is one of the biggest consumers of sexual stimulants that only the weak population consumes.

Explaining his stand, Agina also said that if Egypt decides to go against FGM, it will need strong men. And, the country does not have that. Therefore, it was better for women to undergo FGM to reduce their sexual apetite and stand by their man.

His remarks come amid the government's decision to increase jail terms for those culprits who practice female circumcision. FGM has been banned in Egypt since 2008 and is declared a criminal offence.
