Nigerian prostitutes beaten with brooms and sticks for money, rescued by cops

Ibiza: Nigerian prostitutes as young as 16, who were taken to Spain's Ibiza, for sex work, were rescued by cops after a raid. The victims said they were mistreated and beaten with brooms and sticks for not earning enough money.

The girls were rescued after a major operation was carried out by Spanish police in association with Europol and Office of Criminal Investigation in Germany.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the sex workers were brutally beaten up for failing to earn €1,000 a day.

The victims told police that they were lured to Ibiza with false job promises and were later forced into prostitution. The victims also said that they were forced to work for up to 14 hours a day.

"Once in our country, they were forced into prostitution in marathon days, being beaten if they did not earn the money demanded by the gang," a police spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report.

Police also revealed that the victims were locked up in an apartment and were occasionally allowed to step out to either buy food or meet a client for sex.

"If they didn't earn 1,000 euros a day, they would be forced to kneel for hours and beaten with sticks and brooms," said the spokesperson.

After the raid, Spanish police blocked 20 bank accounts of people involved in the sex racket.
