Washington: Experts are apprehensive about North Korea’s plan to destroy nuclear test site and cautioned that it could lead to destruction of evidence as well.
Instead of inviting weapons experts to witness the dismantling, North Korea has invited a handful of international journalists from the US, China, Russia and the UK to witness the event.
No weapons inspectors or individuals with any kind of expertise were expected to attend the event, which North Korea has said would “ensure transparency of discontinuance of the nuclear test.”
Some say evidence that might have been collected from the site will now be lost. “It’s kind of like a murder scene where they let people like you and me trample around in it,” said Bechtol, a professor of political science at Angelo State University who has authored several books on North Korea.
Some observers said the site was partially unusable anyway.
