Watch: Have more Sikhs in my cabinet than Modi, says Justin Trudeau

Three of four Indian origin members of Canadian cabinet belong to the Sikh community.

Washington: While his cabinet has been touted as one of the most diverse in the world, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cracked up the students of American University with an observation which everybody seems to have overlooked so far. Responding to a student’s comment, Trudeau said jokingly, “I have more Sikh in my cabinet than Modi.”

The Prime Minister has hit headlines in the past with a video showing him rock some good bhangra moves. He has also attended gurbani recitals at the Gurudwara Sahib and lent a helping hand to women at a langar apart from attending Diwali celebrations.

Trudeau was responding to a comment made by Jahan, a student of the American University, who hails from Pakistan’s Punjab province, that it was nice to see that his cabinet had good representation of the Sikh community.

Three of Canada’s four Indian origin cabinet members are Sikh, which include Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains.

Meanwhile, only two of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet members are Sikh, which includes Minister of Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi, who is a Sikh by birth and Minister of Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
