Steps taken to check mishaps

VIJAYAWADA, Dec. 4: In order to prevent road accidents and regulation of traffic in the city and on the outskirts particularly on the main roads and highways, 10 traffic signal lights and two blinker lights to be installed under three traffic police station limits of the city soon.

Besides, police beats would be arranged at busy traffic junctions and staff to be allocated.

The commissioner of police, Mr K.V. Rajendranath Reddy, inspected various parts of the city for the last few days and noticed the traffic junctions that immediately required signal lights.

Traffic signal lights are proposed at Nallakunta area under Traffic I station limits, Fire Station junction, American Hospital junction and Netaji Bridge junction in Krishna Lanka area under the traffic II station limits, Krishna Nagar centre, Tadigadapa centre, Poranki centre, Penamaluru centre, Kankipadu and Vuyyuru village centres under IV traffic police station limits.

Besides, traffic signal blinkers would be set up at Nidamanuru and Gollapudi bus stop centres.

Mr Rajendranath Reddy said on Friday that traffic beats would be arranged in 30 important junctions under the traffic police station limits of Patamata, One Town, Ajit Singh Nagar and Penamaluru.

Speed breakers and “Go slow” sign boards to be arranged near the danger areas on the main roads. Two traffic detachments are proposed to check accidents and ease the traffic in some important routes.

Each detachment will be has five AR constables, 5 Home Guards, and three traffic constables. Two detachments would work under the traffic police station limits of Penamaluru and Patamata police station limits respectively.

Traffic signals would be installed in the city on priority basis, the CP said adding the decision follows the traffic advisory committee meet held last month.

The members raised a hue and cry over the increasing road accidents in different parts of the city. Based on the suggestions and requests from the members, the CP responded and taken initiative to check road accidents and streamline traffic at important junctions.
