    India and Russia on Friday agreed to intensify their consultations on Afghanistan and evolve a joint strategy to meet the challenges posed by terrorism in their proximate neighbourhoods.

  • The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Ms Mayawati, claimed that the state was facing an "acute financial crisis" and was not in a position to give any monetary compensation to the families of those killed or injured in Thursday's Pratapgarh stampede.

    The Mayawati government has squarely blamed the authorities of organisers of the Mangadh Ashram for the stampede in the temple premises that claimed 65 lives on Thursday.
