Update your iPhone now or risk getting hacked with a simple SMS

As many as 86 per cent users out there are yet to update their iPhones to the latest version.

If you have not yet updated your iPhone to the latest iOS 9.3.5, it is time to leave everything aside and get it done right now. The update will patch a huge security flaw in Apple’s iOS operating system, which is vulnerable to hackers via a simple text message.

According to a report by analytics firm MixPanel, around 86 per cent of iPhone users have not yet updated the recent version from Apple, reports Business Insider. The new OS version 9.3.5 fixes a major security flaw in the operating system which allows a hacker to take over the device with a simple text message.

These huge numbers of users who are yet to protect their devices with an update are highly vulnerable the malicious tool called Pegasus, which is known to be highly impossible to detect. The flaw allows the defenceless handset to be completely taken over by an attacker, who can control the device with spying tools. The attacker can control the iPhone’s camera, tap on its microphone, track the user’s movements and also log all messages on the phone.

Security researchers who found this flaw, termed it as Trident as it used three zero-day vulnerabilities that was unknown to Apple. After they disclosed the research to Apple, the Cupertino company issued an urgent update to iOS with version 9.3.5.

Apple has urged all its users to immediately update their iOS devices to the latest version in order to keep their devices safe from the attackers.
