Samsung is working hard towards striking a deal with Apple to become the sole producer of next year’s iPhone chipsets, reported The Investor. According to reports, the South Korean-based technology firm is fighting against Taiwanese foundry rival TSMC, who took over a major part of iPhone processors’ supply deal from Samsung in 2013. The firm has already purchased a high-tech machinery to produce seven-nanometer mobile processor solely for Apple iPhones.

Samsung is hoping high after one of Samsung’s three co-CEOs Kwon Oh-hyun, who had visited to Apple headquarters last month for the deal. However, sources cite that the Taiwanese firm has already moved onto a more efficient seven-nanometer technology and Samsung will have to share order with it for 2018 iPhone release.

Meanwhile, Samsung is planning to complete tests for the new machinery from their end to seek final approval from Apple on chip production as soon as possible.

TSMC took over 50.6 per cent market share in the global chip foundry sector in 2016, while Samsung held a market share of 8.1 percent during the same year, according to The Investors.

As of now, Display unit of Samsung is the major supplier of OLED-panels to for iPhone 8, slated to be launched in September this year.
