Apple considering making iPhones in US in future: Report

Analysts fear that making iPhone in the US would double Apple's production cost.

Apple is considering to manufacturer iPhones in the US in near future, according to a report by financial magazine Nikkei Asian Review, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

In June Apple asked both Apple iPhone assemblers Foxconn and Pegatron to look if iPhone could be manufactured in the US.

According to Nikkei Asian Review’s source, Foxconn complied, while Pegatron declined to formulate Apple’s plan due to cost concerns.

The report has arrived one week after Donald Trump won the US presidential election. In January, then-candidate Trump said he would get Apple to manufacturer its products at home.

“We are going to get Apple to build their damn computers and things in this country, instead of other countries,” he said.

However, Nikkei’s source fears that making iPhone in the US would double Apple’s production cost.

According to a research company HIS Markit, will cost about $ 225 for Apple to make a 32GB iPhone 7, while it retails for $649.
