Smartphone use to be completely banned in cars from next year

The measure forbids drivers from “holding and operating†mobile for any reasons.

Use of smartphones in cars will be banned in California starting January 1, 2017, California Governor Jerry Brown stated.

On Sept. 26, Brown signed a new legislation which expanded restrictions on the use of mobile phones in cars. The measure forbids drivers from “holding and operating” mobile for any reasons. However, it does allow drivers to use mobile at times when only “the motion of a single swipe or tap of the driver’s finger” is required, but to do so, it is mandatory to put the device in car-or-hands-free mode and mounted to the car’s dashboard or windshield.

Bill Quirk, an American politician introduced the Assembly Bill 1785, prohibiting the use of wireless electronic devices to “prevent distracted driving.”
