What would iPhones be like in 2019

According to a report published in MacRumors, OLED technology requires less power than LCD displays and produces brighter colors

This year is going to be one of the biggest for Apple now that there are rumors floating around for the upcoming iPhone 8 which is supposed to have incorporated an edge-to-edge OLED screen — but if rumours are to be believed, that is just the first step in Apple’s master plan.

According to a report published in The Bell and spotted by MacRumors, OLED technology requires less power than LCD displays and produces brighter colors.

If Apple does make a full-on move to OLED, LCD producers, some of the manufacturers who have been experimenting with more flexible designs to stay relevant in increasingly dynamic smartphone ecosystem, could be cut off from the iPhone entirely.

Apple is planning to make 60 million iPhone 8 units with OLED displays this year—about 40 percent of their production overall, according to the report. The Cupertino based manufacturer is also planning to double the number next year, also presumably one lower-tier version of iPhone will have the LCD display, and by 2019, OLED display will become the standard across all iPhone lines in 2019.

This year may see the new iPhone 8 with the OLED display, Iphone 7S and 7S Plus units which will retain the LCD displays and be the incremental updates to the iPhone 7 model.

The latest iPhone 8 will be touted to come along with a lot of updates like the OLED display, new sensor system, a function area embedded into the screen to replace the home button for TouchID, and wireless charging. All of these updates are slated to increase the cost of the iPhone 8 to more than $1,000.
