London-based communications company BT has announced the launch of their new version of phonebooths in London that will be offering free calls and ultra – fast WiFi.
The company plans on installing at least 750 of these modern phonebooths in the streets of London over the span of next year.
These cubicles will offer users Wi-Fi with a speed of up to 1Gbps along with free UK landline and mobile calls and phone charging points.
Furthermore, the phonebooths will consists of a touch-screen tablet that will provide users with the access to maps, directions and local services. The phonebooths will come equipped with sensors that are designed to capture real-time data of the local environment such as pollution levels and air temperature.
Rajesh Agrawal, London’s deputy mayor for business said that the modern-day phonebooths will be playing a big role in improving connectivity for the locals as well as the visitors.
This service will be funded through advertising showcased on the phonebooths.
