Halo forging ahead to PC

The Forge Editor has been the uber popular tool that map creation enthusiasts have used.

The war between the PC master race and the console gamers has raged on since time immemorial, with no indications of it ever coming down in intensity. Microsoft, however, with the new Windows 10 platform is taking gradual strides towards bridging the chasm that has developed between these two gaming factions. We have already seen games like Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Quantum Break release on both the Xbox One as well as the PC via the Universal Windows Platform, albeit to very mixed reviews, but that doesn’t mean that the gesture is not welcome. Quite the contrary in fact, with such a move, Microsoft is tapping in to the already huge market of PC gamers and letting them sample their exclusive titles which earlier would have necessitated the purchase of the Xbox. With Forza Motorsport 6 Apex coming to PC later this year, Microsoft dropped yet another big bombshell this past week. The latest addition to the crossover list is Halo 5, more specifically, the Halo 5 Forge Editor.

The Forge Editor has been the uber popular tool that map creation enthusiasts have used to create some truly spectacular arenas for the Halo multiplayer ecosystem. While the lack of matchmaking has been met with understandable criticism from PC gamers across the board, the mere fact that the map editor is on the PC gives unprecedented freedom to mapping enthusiasts on the consoles. The PC will definitely provide a whole new dimension of freedom that only a mouse and keyboard can and will definitely aid map developers in their endeavour to come up with the next great battle ground for their friends. As of now you can invite others into your sessions, so yes you might just be able to play around a little but no proper multiplayer.

It’ll be interesting to see the changes in map design as well as complexity that will arise due to the addition of Forge on the PC, however we must remember end performance will be on the Xbox One so the complexity of the maps will be limited to suit the hardware.
