Microsoft aims to reshape India digitally

The event, which is touted as India's largest digital transformation, is an initiative by Microsoft

Microsoft’s chief of Indian origin, Satya Nadella on Feb 22 addressed the keynote of ‘Future Decoded’ event, with focus on reshaping of the digitally poor country to being digitally rich in all sectors including business, government, and lives of people.

“Our mission is to empower every person, every organisation on the planet to achieve more. It has deep sense of meaning for us,” Nadella said in his opening lines.

The event, which is touted as ‘India’s largest digital transformation’, is an initiative of the MNC to digitally reshape India with its cloud-computing technology in different organisations. “The cloud infrastructure we have bought to India has helped in digital transformation in India. Technology is shaping every business, shaping government sector, and the lives of daily people,” Nadella added.

In a bid to accelerate India’s digital transformation, Microsoft is integrating Aadhaar verification services in their Skype app. The Redmond company unveiled an Aadhaar integrated Skye Lite app for low bandwidth networks. With this integration, Skype users will be able to authenticate the identity of unknown callers during a job interview or any government services. The Aadhaar data from the app will be erased automatically from the device once the “Aadhaar verified” Skype Chat is over.

In an event in Bangalore on Feb. 21 Nadella said: “India Stack’s vision of having a non-tangible, cashless and paperless vision, which is fundamentally about bringing down transactional costs in the economy that can benefit every citizen, small business and large business, is a grand vision.

“India Stack is industry jargon for applications on the Aadhaar platform and Unified Payment Interface.”

Additionally, Microsoft is introducing Project Sangam to connect the skills learning programs directly with relevant jobs, by leveraging LinkedIn’s job search platform. The project will allow users to register using their Aadhaar identity ensuring life-long access to the platform.

The company has also invested in other Indian enterprises and assured the government of its initiatives for good governance in the country through its cloud computing services.
