Apple Find My Friends app saves young girl stuck in car wreckage

A mother was able to track her daughter down using the Apple app even though she was trapped in a car.

Sometimes we actually take technology for granted and don’t value it unless it desperately comes to our rescue. A horrific situation turned out to be a blessing in disguise thanks to an app on a young girl’s smartphone. As reported by CultofMac, a 17-year old girl, Macy Smith, had been late to get home and wasn’t reachable on her iPhone. Naturally, this caused a lot of panic at her home and after being unreachable on her smartphone, her mother immediately knew something was wrong. In a stroke of good luck and quick thinking, the girl’s mother managed to track her down thanks to the Find My Friends app on her daughter’s iPhone, even though Macy was trapped in her wrecked vehicle at the bottom of an embankment.

The teenager took to Facebook to recount the situation, “I hydroplaned at 4:00 pm and ran in between 2 trees down an embankment, flipped my car 3 times, and landed in my back seat with my arm pinned in between the car and the ground.”

Macy was unable to reach her iPhone to answer the repeated attempts by her family to reach her. However, her mother had the location of the accident through the Find My Friends app. The mother and the rest of the family drove to the spot to find Macy still trapped in the car.

Macy went on to add, “The whole time I knew they were going to show up and I’m so thankful for my family and we’re such a tight family that I knew that I wasn’t going to be there the whole night without them looking for me.”

Following this ordeal, Smith is now urging all her friends to install and activate the Find My Friends app to share it with their family members. She states, “Sneaking around or not telling your parents where you are is not worth what I’ve gone through and I want to share my message because teenagers need to hear it from me.”
