Facebook could soon try to READ YOUR MIND using brainwave technology

Facebook might be onto some incredible technology which may soon let its users read each other’s thoughts. The social network is working hard to develop tools that would allow people to communicate via brain waves using new ‘brain-computer’ interfaces.

And it seems that Facebook is edging over closer to making this technology a reality sooner than you think, as the company is ramping up its recruitment of next-generation specialists in a number of key areas. A report by Business Insider found that Facebook is looking to expand its secretive Building 8 group. The group was set up last year, but little is known about the organisation.

However, several job postings for the division have been uncovered which hint at just what could be in store. These revealed that Facebook is looking to recruit someone with a PhD in neuroscience to work on this “brain-computer interface” project from its inception to final product over a two-year period.

Another advert posted is targeting for an engineer who can develop “audio signal processing algorithms” for a communication and computing platform “of the future”. Facebook is also searching for engineers to create advancements in “novel non-invasive neuro-imaging technologies” and reproduce “realistic and immersive haptic experiences.”

There’s little indication yet about just when we might see this new technology, but Facebook’s CEO has previously hinted that he has a personal interest in seeing it come to fruition soon. Facebook also measures how long you spend reading posts, statuses, comments or browsing a friends' photos.

If you linger on a particular person's status, or read through the comments under a certain kind of video – Facebook will take this as an indication you'd like to see similar content. Facebook launched a website to take users through the 98 personal data points it uses for targeted advertising. But this revealed that if you remain logged into Facebook, the social network can see almost every other website you visit.

And even if you log-out of your Facebook account before you start surfing the World Wide Web, it still keeps a close eye. Facebook is alerted every time you load a webpage with one of its Like or Share buttons embedded.
