PAN-Aadhaar linking most Googled in 2017

With 2018 close at hand, Google India recapped the top trends in 2017 by releasing the Year in search results'.

Hyderabad: Indians spent the year obsessing over Bahubali 2, linking PAN with Aadhaar, Goods and Service Tax (GST), Indian Premier League (IPL) on Google. These were among the most searched items in 2017 revealed the search engine Giant. With 2018 close at hand, Google India recapped the top trends in 2017 by releasing the ‘Year in search results’. This annual data offers a distinctive side of the year’s major moments and top trends based on online searches by internet users in the country.

Much like previous years, Bollywood and cricket were the top two themes that dominated the search reiterating the love for the two pastimes in the country. In the ‘Top Trending Queries Overall’ category, there were seven movies and three items related to cricket.

An intriguing reflection on the big stories and topics of the past year, top news moments like CBSE results, Uttar Pradesh election results, GST, Miss World ceremony and the Budget evoked widespread interest among citizens along with ICC Champions trophy and IPL. Online search also reflected some key news trends in the ‘What is’ category search this year. ‘What is GST’, ‘What is Bitcoin’ and ‘What is Jallikattu’ were top three searches.

People were curious to know how to link Aadhaar with PAN as also buying a Jio phone as was evident from the results in the ‘How to’ category. The top three searches were ‘How to link Aadhaar card with PAN card’, ‘How to book Jio phone’ and ‘How to remove Holi color from face’. Netizens in India were inquisitive about Bitcoin prices and ransomware attacks. The TV show Bigg Boss Hindi, Season 11, contestants were among Top Trending Entertainers along with Sunny Leone, YouTube singing sensation Vidya Vox and Bollywood celebrities.
