Kochi: Yedukrishna and Benson K Mathew, Class XII Science batch students of Mount Carmel Vidyaniketan School, Kottayam, have made a mark by developing a prototype of the electronic voting machine (EVM) that is used in the General, Assembly and local body elections, on a shoestring budget of Rs 1500.
The students embarked on this to highlight the importance of the general election process. Since last year the election is being conducted by the Zenith club of the school on the school campus by introducing procedures like nomination, campaigning, ink marking and casting of votes. This year Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) made its entry in the place of ballot papers.
Students of Class XI conducted a flash mob to encourage students to cast their votes and they conducted a pre-poll survey as well.
“Yedukrishna and Benson have really inspired us to dream for higher things. It is really a moment of pride for all the school,”said Class X students Abik and Gobu on the arrival of EVM on the school campus.
