OpTic India win Zowie Extremesland Indian qualifier

The Indian Qualifier saw the top 4 teams from across India compete at LXG, a premier gaming cafe in Bangalore.

OpTic India emerges victorious after a gruelling weekend of Counter-Strike and will represent India at the Zowie Extremeslands LAN Finals in Shanghai later next month for their share of the USD 100K Prize Pool.

The high profile counter strike team setup up under the OpTic Gaming banner just 2 months ago has won their first major event after beating last year's Indian Qualifier winners, Entity Gaming.

The Indian Qualifier saw the top 4 teams from across India compete at LXG, a premier gaming cafe in Bangalore over two days after a series of offline and online qualifiers that attracted participation from dozens of teams across the country. The final event in Shanghai will feature the top 16 teams from the Asia Pacific region.

Speaking to Rajeev Singh, Managing Director, BenQ India Pvt LTD about Zowie and their focus on Esports. "Extreme stands is an initiative by BenQ to promote esports, specifically first-person shooters at an Asia Pacific Level because there aren't enough events around there. Another reason for our focus on the genre is that most of our products are designed and optimised for FPS gamers and their requirements."

With the arrival of OpTic India and their first win within two months of their inception, we are sitting on the verge of a major shift in power in the Indian Counter Strike scene. Entity Gaming dominated for the most part of the last two years taking a lion's share of the annual winnings across major events and it's only in the last six months that we have seen them face some completion from the likes of Invictus and 2ez Gaming. OpTic India stands apart from Entities other competitors by providing a fully professional organisation to back their team with a coach, boot camp and competitive salaries. We might finally have a healthy competitive Counter-Strike scene in India where event seedings are far from certain.
