Back in 2016, Qualcomm had partnered with Microsoft to support Windows 10 computing devices on next generation Snapdragon processors. This collaboration had continued to next year with its Snapdragon 845 chipset. A new report suggests that Microsoft has got a dedicated new Snapdragon chipset from Qualcomm for its Windows-on-ARM portable computers.
Snapdragon 850 is reportedly the new chipset from Qualcomm, which claims to be faster than the current 845 chipset.
According to WinFuture’s report, this new 845 chipset from Qualcomm will be a performance-based one that would be used in ultra-portable Windows 10 notebooks and tablets. As far as the connectivity with this chipset is concerned, it will be same as the 845 chipset. The new 850 chipset will be running slightly faster compared to the 845 due to the thermal changes in notebooks and 2-in-1 tablets.
The initial scores from Geekbench states that the Snapdragon 850 processor will have operating speeds less than 3.0GHz and also the new chipset seems to be identified as 845 but is marketed as 850 by Asian development team. The report also showcases the screenshot of Qualcomm 850 running on the Lenovo ELZE1 and HP is also reportedly working on Chimera 2, a predecessor to Chimera, which was HP’s first Snapdragon-based tablet, now called HP X2 1012.
And lastly, this new chipset features 8 cores as before and also with increased clock speeds. The Qualcomm-based Kryo 385 Gold (based on Cortex-A75) appears to reach up to 2.96GHz, which is significantly higher than the phone chips. This is mostly due to the improved thermals of the larger ultra portable computers.
