Samsung currently does not view AI speaker' amid strong competition from rivals

The slow works on Bixby-powered smart speaker is also being traced back to delay in Bixby's roll out on the Galaxy S8 smartphone.

Samsung is not yet ready to launch its own artificial intelligence speaker due to strong competition from rivals such as Amazon and Google, reported The Investor. “Samsung currently does not view AI speakers as marketable, as the global market is already dominated by unbeatable Amazon and the Korean market is too small to make profits,” a source told The Korean Herald.

The AI speaker is known to be code-named ‘Vega’ and operated on Samsung’s newest digital voice-assistant Bixby. An earlier report by The Wall Street Journal said that the speaker is in early stage of development.

The slow works on Bixby-powered smart speaker is also being traced back to delay in Bixby’s roll out on the Galaxy S8 smartphone.

“More importantly, Samsung cannot afford to focus on the uncertain market, as most of its AI specialists -- whose number is much less than that of the US tech giants -- are currently going all out to develop the Bixby version in English,” the source said.
