Delhi metro commuters get ticket-smartwatches

The new facility is expected to provide commuters with a more convenient and faster access to the Delhi Metro network.

LAKS, an Austrian company has tied up with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to offer commuters the option of using smartwatches with a rechargeable Delhi Metro ticket in SIM card size as a smart card at the automatic fare collection systems at all its stations.

For marketing of Watch2Pay in Delhi, LAKS has tied up with Cedar Telelinks as their India partners. These watches, called Watch2Pay, will be available exclusively on Paytm Mall. The new facility is expected to provide commuters with a more convenient and faster access to the Delhi Metro network. The commuter will simply have to touch the watch to the screens of the AFC [Automatic Fare Collection] gates at the metro stations to get access,” said DMRC in a statement.

The watch will carry a SIM card inside it, which can be removed and reinserted whenever the user wants. The SIM-equipped watch can be recharged like the usual metro smart card over the counter or through recharge card terminals. Cedar Telelinks, India Partners of LAKS Watch2Pay has collaborated with India’s leading e-commerce firm Paytm Mall for the sales of Watch2Pay in India.
