Mindset: Headphones that read your mind

Cofounder of Mindset says it can potentially treat ADHD and enhance a person's creativity.

Three San Francisco-based engineers unveiled a product prototype recently — a pair of headphones that might be the answer to distracting colleagues. The headphones called Mindset feature a new design that employs the same technology used in hospitals for brain imaging. The mind-reading sensors included in the headphones analyse brain activity to help users concentrate.

In other words, Mindset makes use of neurofeedback technology in order to measure electroencephalography (EEG) signals that help users get in and out of their habits.

The headphones further sport five other EEG sensors that help users detect conditions like epilepsy, head injuries, dizziness, and brain tumours. According to their post on Kickstarter, the headphones have been utilised to train NASA astronauts and improve creativity in Olympic figure skaters.

“Mindset tracks your focus throughout the day, and alerts you whenever your concentration drops. Over time, these alerts train your mind and rewire your brain to better tune out distractions. The same technology used to treat ADHD, improve creativity in Olympic figure skaters, and train NASA astronauts, is now accessible to you,” a post on the Kickstarter website read.

The Mindset crowd-funding campaign has managed to raise $192,470 of a $100,000 goal with still around 30 days to go. The Mindset headphones are expected to be shipped by December and will cost $349.
