What works as Band-Aid when “it feels like you’re always stuck in second gear… when it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month or even your year” as the song from F.R.I.E.N.D.S goes? Relationship coaches Marcia Baczynski and Reid Mihalko believe that cuddling will make a world of difference. They recommend cuddling as a great way to experience non-sexual physical intimacy and keep stress at bay.
Cuddle parties’ are a rage abroad. On whether this trend promises to catch on in our city, model Sunny says, “It sounds like a nice concept to me. It may take a while before people here open their minds to it, but I’m certain it will get popular sooner or later. We should make an attempt to change with the times. And the moral police should also not have any objections to this kind of practice as long as it’s being conducted tastefully and no one is looking embarrassed.”
It is common to see youngsters in Bengaluru greet their friends with a hug. Actress Meghana is someone who finds it natural to cuddle her gal pals. “I make sure to hug my girlfriends whether I meet them at a party or elsewhere. It’s nice to share that kind of closeness with someone,” she says, adding, “So yes, it sounds like an interesting trend. Beware of naughty guys though, ones who may be looking to take advantage of something like this.”
Touch, be it in the form of cuddling or even holding someone’s hand or patting it, is a stressbuster. Says Alla Oberoi, Vice President, Overseas Women’s Club, “The power of touch has been scientifically proven, and I agree with the fact that cuddling is a nice way to bond with friends. It works beautifully for me. It may take time for the Western trend of ‘cuddle parties’ to get accepted in India due to cultural factors. But once it does come in, it will become popular.”So be generous with those ‘jaadu ki jhappis.’ They work afterall!
