If last week was Urban Dictionary Week, which had Facebook users looking up their names in urbandictionary.com and posting the definition this week, every self-respecting Facebook user is suddenly flaunting profile pictures of a famous celebrity.
Doppelganger Week is the hottest rage among Facebook users all over the world, who are posting pictures of the celebrity that people say they most resemble. Uploading a picture of their “celeb twin” is fun and is a great boost to their self-esteem too, say these youngsters.
Pooja Rangisetty a class XII student from Nasr, has been receiving a lot of compliments from her friends, who claim she looks like Bollywood actress Genelia D’Souza, “They say that not only do I look like her, but my personality is also like her — bubbly, chirpy and girly. Ever since I posted Genelia’s picture on my profile, I’ve received many comments. Everyone remarks on our resemblance.”
In fact, many youngsters are making the most of Doppelganger Week to “prove a point.” Ritu Choudary, a student from St Francis says, “Most of my friends are taking full advantage of this new trend. I was told I look like Tulip Joshi, but because she is not that famous I didn’t want to change my profile picture to her photograph. I burst out laughing when a friend of mine thought she looked like Katrina Kaif. Since Twitter became popular, the Facebook craze started dying, but with these new trends, a new buzz has been generated,”
Fishing for compliments is always fun, says Siddharth R., a student from St.Mary’s College. “If you are told that you look a lot like a famous celeb. it does a lot of good to your self esteem. And having people agree with that on a social networking site is even better! I have been told that when I style my hair, I look like Robert Pattinson’s character in Twilight — Edward Cullen. I posted a picture of Edward with one of mine on Facebook just to get reactions from everyone on my list. It’s great fun.”
