The exhibition of photographs by Kalpana Reddy on display at Kalakriti Art Gallery beautifully captures the rugged beauty of the earth. In all its glory, the barren rocks, ragged and weathered bear testimony of the ravages of time. The play of light in each of Kalpana Reddy’s frame is exquisite. One frame, where the orangish light of the setting sun filters through a crevice is especially beautiful.
But what is interesting about the photographs is the way the rocks are captured. They all seem to take human form. While one seems akin to a human skull, the others look like bones and even mouths whispering, thereby extending the analogy of human frailty at the hands of time. One photo even looks like it has been painted, because of the sheer beauty of the the frame and the vibrancy of the colours portrayed. Even the black and white frame of a dried bark of a tree resembles a reptilian creature giving the photograph a strange life-like quality. The exhibition is on display at till December 29.
