Buses do not halt at designated stops

Passengers travelling by MTC buses are often forced to sprint in order to board the buses. This is because often the vehicles stop several meters ahead of the bus stops designated for them. There are several risks rising from the same. For instance, in the ensuing rush to board the bus, people abandon every ounce of decorum, push and shove their way to the entrance just so that they can get a seat. While men might be used to such physical exertions, one cannot expect the elderly and children to keep up. Will the MTC take care of this issue on a priority basis?

Mineral water being sold over MRP

Recently at a stopover on a roadside eatery, I was surprised to find the shopkeeper selling bottles of mineral water at a price higher than the MRP. The 1 litre bottle of water manufactured by a well-known soft drinks manufacturer was priced at Rs 14, but he was charging his customers Rs 15 for the same. When asked about why he was selling the same at an inflated rate, the shopkeeper said that 50 paise (of the extra rupee1) was his profit margin while the deliveryman pocketed the rest. I request the consumer protection officials to look into this immediately.

Pay-per-use toilets needed in Chennai

One of the major issues plaguing the city these days is the lack of ample number of public restrooms that are clean and tidy. A majority of citizens would rather put up with the inconvenience rather than use the existing facilities in most stations and depots. The state government should seriously look into the creation of pay-per-use toilets for the convenience of regular commuters and passengers at pertinent points in Chennai. This is the only way citizens can help rid Chennai of its numerous sanitation issues.
