B’wood heroines replaced in sequels

Kareena Kapoor in place of Katrina Kaif/Bipasha Basu and Katrina instead of Priyanka Chopra — this is who film buffs will get to witness in the future, when sequels to Race and Dostana will be made. Apparently, Piggy Chops who starred in Krrish might be replaced by Deepika Padukone in Krrish 2. Will watching the sequels of these flicks be as interesting without the asli actresses?

“It’s not fair to replace the heroine, but then again it depends on the story. For a film like Lage Raho Munnabhai, it was okay to take Vidya Balan instead of Gracy Singh who starred in the first film, because the story itself was completely different,” says dancer Ashwini Kaikini, adding, “It also depends on who is replacing the original actress. Taking Katrina in Dostana 2 is silly — she can’t even act!”

Actress Sanjjanaa says that this concept is totally okay. “Viewers need more variety. Taking the same actress would mean making the whole film monotonous. And as for the heroes not being replaced, it happens all the time because ours is a male-dominated industry,” says the actress. For her, it doesn’t matter if Priyanka is not seen in Dostana 2 as she says she can’t imagine a Dostana without John Abraham.

Since all these are timepass movies, it doesn’t matter who is in it, says Kiran Sreedhar a radio jockey. “The sequel can’t get any better than the original. Changing the heroine is no big deal. Either the original heroine is seeing someone else by the time the sequel is made or has had a tiff with the director, or maybe the new heroine is doing it at a lesser price — anything might have happened,” he says. As for Priyanka not starring in Dostana 2, he says, “Priyanka is the hottest and Katrina is next, so it’s fine.”

Replacing the heroine in mainstream films is done just for the glam quotient and is a very ‘Bollywood’ thing, echoes Meghna Vakada, HR Manager, F & B. “I’m looking forward to the Dostana sequel and Race 2. I’m not too excited about Golmaal 3 as the fizz died out with the second part,” she says.
