Not the one to mull over his debacle What’s your Raashee, Ashutosh Gowariker has already picked up the pieces and is moving on. This time, he has his eyes set on none other than Hollywood star Keanu Reeves, whom he plans to rope in for his magnum opus Buddha, a film based on Gautama Buddha. Ashutosh wants to get the project rolling post Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se, and hopes to get Reeves to play the lead role.
Keanu had earlier played Prince Siddharth in a Hollywood venture, Bernardo Bertolucci’s Little Buddha. That was 15 years ago and Ashutosh is convinced that Keanu would be a great choice for his film. Interestingly, Rahul Roy was to play the role Keanu did in Little Buddha and he had even left plum Bollywood offers for this project, though Keanu bagged the role finally.
While critics went all out to slam his last project, WYR, the director’s friends reveal that he is not the one to get dejected so easily. In fact, he’s working hard to prove that he can’t be written off just because of one flop. Sources from his team reveal that Ashutosh reached Goa soon after the release of WYR to oversee the pre-production work of Khele Hum… His first schedule is in Goa, following which he will have schedules in Bengal and a short stint in Bangladesh. “He could have let his crew figure out details, but he just doesn’t want to take chances.”
The film stars Abhishek Bachchan and Asin and is based on the Chittagong rebellion and its hero, Surya Sen.
