You leave behind an entire year stacked with moments — successes, failures, broken hearts, new friendships, old relationships — and dance into a brand New Year listening to the track that you’re going to remember for a while to come as the tune that rang in 2010. Youngsters in the city say they associate the ‘midnight’ song with everything good that happens as the New Year is born.
Many youngsters are comparing their happy moments from previous years and are hoping the numbers played this year in the pubs, too, are just as memorable. Says Priya K, a mass communication student in the city, “The last song of the year has to signify what happened in that year, and has to be something that carries forward a message into the New Year. As for me, Seasons in the Sun from Westlife sums up everything that 2009 stood for — even though it’s a really old song. And that’s what I’m hoping I listen to at the stroke of midnight.”
Points out Raj Sundar, who is partying with his cousins coming down from other parts of the country for New Year, “The song I’ll be playing for my personal guests is going to be Chiggy Wiggy from Blue. All of us enjoy listening to it as it’s a happy song, and we want to be in good high spirits as we move into 2010.”
Many of the city DJs who’re playing at popular pubs and parties have already decided the last song of 2009. And, even as some refuse to let the surprise out, the others willingly tell us the treat they have in store for Chennai’s party animals.
DJ Bala, who is playing at the Gandhinagar Club’s private party, says that the last song of the year has to be a popular track, with high energy so that people can enjoy the final few seconds of the year. “That’s why my pick is Waiting for Tonight, a high-energy, fast paced number I’m sure will be a hit with everyone, no matter the genre they’re like,” he adds.
