Heber Hall strums into the thirtieth year of Octavia

Heber Hall strums into the thirtieth year of Octavia.
Heber Hall strums into the thirtieth year of Octavia.

Thirty years ago, in 1981, MCC’s Bishop Heber Hall started Octavia – the annual inter-college annual music fest that had the best bands from across Chennai colleges headbanging to the music from their western acoustic and electric guitars.

Heberians, known even then for their talent with the six-string, were much the same. Scruffy clothes, scruffier hair. Guitars and jam sessions. And smoke…err… of burning teen spirit.

Thirty years hence, we keep the tradition, and bring to you Octavia ’11. The music extravaganza is scheduled on September 17th.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’d know about the cult following of this music fest. It’s 'the' event for music junkies from Loyola, Stella Maris, Ethiraj, Women’s Christian College, IIT-M and other cool colleges from the city.

Previous years have seen bands such as Thermal and a Quarter, Lounge Piranha, Ministry of Blue’s Junkyard Groove to name a few, perform here. Watch this space for this year’s headlining act.

Until then, bring out those dusty guitars and get your act together!

Venue: Bishop Heber Hall, Madras Christian College, Tambaram East, Chennai - 59.
Date: 17th September 2011
