Rhythm lives up to its name

Bhavan’s Sri Aurobindo Junior College celebrated its 15th annual day on Saturday, with an event called Rhythm. It was an interesting mix of cultural programmes along with a prize distribution ceremony, honouring the toppers of the year. Y. Padmavathy, Vice-President of the Andhra Mahila Sabha, was chief guest at the event which also saw the release of the college magazine, Bharati.

Kevin Chacko, second year student, says, “I had volunteered at the event and it was nice to see a lot of parents turning up. The highlight was the cultural programmes that were organised.” The cultural programmes included Annamacharya Keerthana, a classical dance in praise of Lord Shiva, a jugalbandi of the tabla and mridungam, and a fusion dance based on the music of A.R. Rahman.

One of the participants, N.R. Pratyusha, says, “Our college encourages students to participate; which is why I took part, even though I am in the second year. It was a wonderful experience.” According to Samuel, second-year student and topper in English, inviting and distributing prizes to students who had passed out was an inspiration for the present students. “It was nice to see our seniors being honoured in front of their parents. This is the first time that our fest has been named ‘Rhythm’, and the event definitely lived up to its name,” he says.
