Jhankar Intelligencia Fest (JIF) organised by MOP Vaishnav was a two day cultural and literary extravaganza that had participants from all over the city coming together on the college campus to celebrate a fusion of music, talent and intellect presented in the form of variety programs.

Nearly 20 events were organised as part of JIF, spanning popular interests like, Western and Classical dance/ music, Quiz, Blog Writing, Jam, Comic Strip, Shipwreck, etc. Twenty six Student Council members, all looking snazzy in blue, efficiently managed the various activities and program coordination by dividing the responsibilities among themselves.

“We split up into nine ministries, headed by a PM and her Deputy. The ministers organized events assigned to them from scratch, including arranging sponsors, invitations and assigning judges. We also had 150 volunteers to help us. It was great fun pulling this event off —- from frenzied Facebook shares and word-of-mouth promotions to launching our YouTube video, which got nearly 1000 views in a single day!” shared Minster of Media and PR, Priyanka Subramanian, excitedly.

JIF proved memorable for participants as it offered variety entertainment combined with intellectual and cultural elements. ‘The Box Speaker’ event required contestants to speak extempore on topics, while the fun-filled MC event had students hosting the Oscars, or TV shows.

Similarly, the Short Film fest was a heady mix of contemporary themes, like, romance, social issues and morality in life while the Quiz show had everyone racking their brains for answers!

The Light Music program offered brilliant fusion and instrumental versions, though the show stopper event undoubtedly was an integrated rock metal carnival effort by 16 college bands — eve the girls were inspired to head banging! ‘Pipe Dream’ from SRM walked away with the first prize for original compositions.

Nina Justin, Prime Minister of the Student Cabinet, remarked, “We were a little apprehensive initially as there were many small but important issues to manage, but thankfully it worked! I enjoyed the Western Dance, where songs like I’m Sexy and I know it,’ Chammak Challo and Arjun’s English R&B Kolaveri remix were all the rage.”

Talking about the highlights of the college fest, she added, “Also, the ‘Elevator Pitching’ round was a riot. We’d given a topic Gobar Agarpathi, and students had to come up with a fun strategy to sell it.
One chap took it all too seriously, turning up with a 20-page proposal, filled with case studies and door-to-door records!”

Popular figures from the world of TV, media and culture judged the different events, where Loyola College and SRM were declared winners of Intelligencia and Jhankar fests, respectively.
