Wooden dolls rarely come to life. But when they do, they often have stories to tell. The Red Balloon, a rarely seen art of marionette puppets, is all set to shed light on the human psyche.
“All of us have our own red balloons. For some it is money, for others it is something else,” says Ranji David, one of the co-founders of Yours Truly Theatre. YT is bringing down String Theatre troupe, the artistes behind The Red Balloon.
The play is about a small boy’s fantasy with a red balloon. The 40-minute drama explores the poignancy of the child’s imagination. One of the puppeteers, Soledad is a trained marionette operator. The other puppeteer, Stan is third generation marionettist who has worked professionally for over 10 years.
“Are we happy after getting what we want to achieve the most in life? Or do we still remain unsatisfied,” Ranji says adding, “These are some of the questions that the play seeks to answer.” Red Balloon is a symbol for the wants in human life. “The play is not only for children. All of us have our own red balloons in our lives. So, everyone can relate to the theme of the play,” adds Ranji.
Don’t miss this unique experience of seeing the wooden dolls coming to life. The play will be staged at ADA Ranga Mandira on March 20.
