The Art of Giving

The Art of Giving

It is believed that a dyslexic person has better visual skills and imagination than an average person.

It is also believed that the right side of a dyslexic’s brain, the creative side, is better able to create art than normal artists.

In order to pay tribute to their Dyslexic brethren, a group of artists from Chennai have come together and have put up about 60 paintings at an event called “Different Strokes — Art for a Cause. The proceeds will go towards the Madras Dyslexia Association.

Madras Dyslexia Association is a non – profit organisation established in 1991 to support children with dyslexia and educated policymakers, educators and parents of such special children.

These paintings are available online and will also be displayed at an invitation — only event to be held on February 17, at the Sheraton Park Hotel and Towers. In addition, the exhibition will also help art students display their talent. In fact, there will also be a student drawing caricatures of visitors.

What started as a two - person initiative now has six artists! The chief coordinator of Different Strokes, Padmini Vasudevan, says, “Today, artists are going that extra mile to reach out to the needy.

This stems from a concern for society to support the community through artistic endeavors.”
The paintings are priced between `5,000 and `30,000 and can also be viewed by appointment.

Works of artists Padmini Vasudevan, Pavithra Prasad, Divya Hariharan, Anita Hariharan, and Surya Ramkumar have been featured here.

While Padmini’s forte is wildlife, Pavithra’s stunning work includes tribal forms, such as Warli, Madhubani and Gond and Divya Hariharan works on figurines and landscapes.

Anita Hariharan has worked on sketches and abstract art, while Ramkumar’s is water colours with pen and ink. The group hopes to add more artists and sell art throughout the year to benefit non — profit associations.
