The world’s toughest sailing event, The Volvo Ocean Race is a yacht race that goes on for nine-months. It was formerly called the Whitbread Round the World Race and is currently named after its owner, Volvo. Each team comprises 11 crew members that race for over 20 days at a time. The race tests the crew’s perseverance as they experience life under extreme conditions. No fresh food is taken on board, so they live off freeze-dried fare. They also go through extreme temperature variations and are allowed to take only one change of clothes.
