The PhD student in genomics from Kozhikode has never been more excited in her life. No, she is not on the brink of any major scientific discovery but will be making her debut in a movie, Ithramathram.

Says Thashi Bharadwaj, a bundle of nerves: “Although I am looking forward to act, I am nervous, since I don’t know the nitty-gritty of cinema.”

The movie is based on a Malayalam novel written by Kalpatta Narayanan. Thashi, who had read the novel even before she was approached for the movie, says, “I was touched by the story and so I am happy to play a role in the movie.”

She will play the role of Geetha, who is a close friend of Sumithra (Shwetha Menon), the protagonist in the movie.

“Director K. Gopinathan was looking for a face that would suit the character of Geetha and the producer introduced me to him. Gopinathan sir found me suitable for the role and I am in the movie now,” she says.
A classical dancer, she continues her Kuchipudi training under Kalamandalam Saraswathi and plans to continue in movies if roles keep coming.
