Most foreigners are interested in knowing how a particular dish is cooked especially when they are travelling as they feel it gives them an inside look into a particular destination.
In this case, Kerala’s innovative cuisine is being used to attract more tourists to the state via a concept called the farm kitchen.
This type of kitchen at Marari beach resort near Mararikkulam has some 20 acres of vegetable garden.
“The farm kitchen is a novel experience for tourists.
Those who use the kitchen can select the vegetables grown in the garden,” said Subrahmanian, General Manager of Marari beach resort.
The farm kitchen even has a chef who turns out some tasty food.
Says Taphne Richards from Hampshire, UK, “If we use the farm kitchen, we get fresh vegetables and this helps to make quality food.’’
A keen gardener Kay Manikkem from Gloucestershire in the UK says she maintains a vegetable garden in her home country.
“I would’ve liked to start a farm kitchen in the UK but I don’t know how Indian vegetables will grow in a cool climate,” she added.
She also added that the weather conditions in Kerala were favourable for the growth of vegetables — that is the main reason why farm kitchens have become a hit, she pointed out.
