Diagnosed with a malignant tumour, Yuvraj Singh is currently undergoing chemotherapy in the US and his cancerous tumour may have originated from the testicles, according to latest medical tests conducted on the Indian all-rounder.

India’s leading urologist, Dr J.G. Lalmalani, elaborated on the condition, saying, “Usually the tumour starts from the testicles and spreads to the lymph nodes and lungs, needing removal of the testicle and chemotherapy. However, sometimes, surgery and radiation for the lymph nodes may also be required.”

Dr Lawrence Einhorn, a US-based specialist has treated Lance Armstrong, seven times winner of the Tour de France, when the former American pro road-racing cyclist had been diagnosed with stage three testicular cancer (Embryonal carcinoma) on October 2, 1996. The cancer had spread to Armstrong’s lungs, abdomen and brain.

Dr J.G. Lalmalani acknowledges that quite a few of his patients have been cured by Dr Lawrence Einhorn, who treated Armstrong and is now taking charge of Yuvraj Singh’s health issues.

“I have had some patients treated by Dr Einhorn and the results of chemotherapy are excellent. However, the downside is that the cancer chemo has many side effects,” clarified the doctor.

Yuvraj Singh tweeted on friday, “Finally the hair has gone.” Hair loss is one of the most distressing side effects of chemotherapy that Yuvi is undergoing.

Hair loss, or Alopecia, is one of the most distressing side effects of chemotherapy and occurs because this treatment affects all the cells in the body, not just the cancer cells.

Dr.Lawrence Einhorn has been credited with achieving major advances in the curative treatment of this type of cancer and has developed a clinical investigation program for the clinical use of platinum-based chemotherapy.

Confirming Dr. Einhorn’s contributions to the field of cancer treatment, Dr. Lalmalani shared: “The drug is called Cisplatinum and is very effective.”
