This is one of the most common questions I get asked following of course the much discussed language issues that I have and not to forget my not so traditional dressing sense.
It’s a question that I have a quick answer to. I don’t idolise anyone. Why would I? I mean as a person I don’t believe in idol worship. Now a better question probably would be whether I admire or look up to someone. And in that respect, of course I do. Every person I come across in my life in some way or the other influences my life in ways I might not even realise.
However growing up in a particular society brings us in regular touch with a few people who more than others you end up admiring. Who have fought their way up from nothingness to being successful strong confident women.
So here are my top picks. My favourite chikas. Now if I start the list without mentioning her, it would be unfair. The very reason of my existence, my pillar, my world and only weakness— Sujatha Haridas— I love you! Oh and for those who are wondering who that is, it’s my mom!
All of us aspire to have qualities that we know we will never possess and just like everyone else I do too, since arrogant is a term quite well associated with me.
My never ending quest is to attain humbleness and trust me as hard as I try my next pick puts everyone to shame and that’s exactly why I respect and adore her beyond bounds — Chitra chechi.
If I could even be five per cent as humble and sweet as her that would be one hell of an achievement. Some people too good to be true and she is truly one of them!
Oodles of energy and a positive fun attitude is all you need to sail through life. With a dynamic stage presence it’s a wonder how this woman keeps it up even at her age.
At times I feel I’m old and depressed while here she is with the excitement and cheerfulness of a 16-year- old. My Didi is truly one of a kind. Usha Uthup... You rock!!!
All these women have in different ways influenced my growth pattern and I have tried to learn their strong qualities so that I could be a better person. As to how far I have succeeded is another question altogether. One I’d rather not have an answer to at this point...
