It’s just a few days away. As you get ready to celebrate the love of your life, why not do something besides with flowers and gifts?
How about a sizzling dance number as a surprise for your valentine? If you are game to shake a leg, don’t wait to put on your dancing shoes for, the acclaimed Verb studio from Chennai is gearing up to take you through the magical world of Salsa, Hip-hop and Bollywood dance prior to the D day.
“Though two days is too short a time I intend to boost the concept of social dancing that could liven up any occasion,” says Vinu John, the man behind Verb that has helped many souls shake away their inhibitions when it comes to jiving in style.
The Malayali lad’s prowess in dance, especially Salsa, has not only made him a much sought-after dance expert but has also seen the young at heart queuing up to learn the nuances of Jive, Hip-hop , Bollywood numbers, Meringue and Salsa at his studios in Adyar and Harrington Road in Chennai.
“My youngest student is five and oldest is 74,” says the dancer as he explains how a seventy-year-old grandma just walked in to his dance studio recently to fulfill her long cherished dream.
“Many are not able to take their passion for dance forward in life’s ebb and flow. But it’s never too late.” A ball of energy on the floor, Vinu plans to take aspiring dancers of Kochi aged 5 to 12 through the nuances of rock n’ roll, the 12 to 15, to the all-time favourite Hip-hop, and for the 15 upwards there are rhythmic moves of the Salsa.
But everyone, no matter what age, will learn Bollywood dance numbers for songs like Chikni Chameli, Sheila Ki Jawani and the sizzling hot number Darling.
But ask the livewire about the most popular dance form around the world and he doesn’t bat an eyelid to say, it’s Salsa. “The dance form is creating waves anywhere from Europe to India,” says this ardent fan of Michael Jackson.
But a course in LA style in Salsa from Dubai totally changed his outlook towards dance. “The first thing aspiring dancers have to understand is that there is nothing vulgar about Salsa,” says Vinu adding, “
The movements are just fluid and relaxing. In fact, dance is the best stress buster.” No wonder seventy percent of Vinu’s students in Chennai are from the IT sector.
“Everyone, for sure, wants to have a good time and Verb is literally a place of action,” signs off the expert whose wife Aparna, a trained Samba dancer assists him in his passion.
