The Oprah effect

The Oprah effect

I’ve never really been star struck or longed to meet someone or even bothered to get an autograph from anyone. Now don’t get me wrong.

I do appreciate the creative talents of people but I’ve never really understood what all the fanfare and hungama was about.

So I racked my brains to figure out if there was anyone in this world who I actually would take an effort to meet. Now this would definitely have to be someone I admired for the work they did.

Someone whose qualities someday I hope to achieve even in a small manner if possible. Now who could it be? After a lot of thought I found the answer.

When I was a little girl there was one show that I hated to miss. Actually two. One was ‘The Bold and the Beautiful.” Now I know that isn’t exactly something to be proud of.

The other, of course, was The Oprah Winfrey Show - a self-titled show hosted by a charming African American woman who took the concept of talk shows to an altogether completely new platform.

One of confessional communication. A woman who came from poverty and became one of the richest and the most influential women in the world purely on the basis of her vision, hard work and dedication.

For a girl who was raped when she was nine and became pregnant at 14, destiny had quite something in store for her.

Today, she is the former host of the world’s all-time popular talk show which aired for close to 25 years, chairwoman and CEO of the Harpo Network as well as the Oprah Winfrey network.

What makes her even more special is her philanthropic work under the Oprah’s angel network. She overcame all those adversities to finally help hundreds of others. Now isn’t that truly a person one should admire?

How many people in this world can draw strength from the misfortunes of life and convert it to positivity and happiness for the greater good of mankind. I think not many.

She has opened my eyes and heart to a whole new world. She inspires me to become a better person. So, here is to the Oprah effect... three cheers to that!
