Casting on Twitter!

Casting on Twitter!

Many young aspiring actors and technicians seek to make it big in films and the Internet is serving as a platform to make their dreams come true.

If you are familiar with Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites, all you need to do to land a role is click!

A new production company called Creative Criminals recently launched a Facebook campaign to select the cast for an upcoming film Karma.

Popular ad-film maker-turned-director Aravind Ramalingam has penned the movie, which is a psychological thriller.

Initially, several established actors were approached and though they all liked the script, they rejected it as the protagonist has some negative traits.

Then director Aravind took to Facebook to lure his cast and he was overwhelmed by the response. “In just about a fortnight, I received about 22,000 applications from all over the state. The Facebook page has almost two million hits and thousands of people are voting for their favorite cast short-listed on the page.”

Using social networking sites for casting is not only a good way to promote the project, but it also serves as a platform for those who are waiting for an opportunity.

When Soundarya Rajinikanth posted a tweet asking for art directors to work on her upcoming movie Kochadiyaan starring Superstar Rajinikanth, it had everyone a-flutter. Getting a big break with such a film coupled with the fact that you could get to meet the Superstar family, made it an opportunity that no one would want to miss.

Art director and creative producer Mahesh quips, “As soon as I saw the tweet, I hurried to send my resume. It is a golden opportunity — besides the fame of working for Superstar’s movie.” As soon as the tweet was posted, mails kept flooding in and so did the retweets.

Soundarya Rajinikanth says, “The response has been very good! I have an in-house art department and now the short-listed students are getting trained under my art director Velu.”

For those who are still dreaming, waiting outside production house gates, all you have to do is look around online and opportunity is indeed lurking around the corner.
