A traditional style statement

The concept of a nallukettu, a house build around a courtyard was once the pride of our land.

The rich tradition so unique to our State not only focused on the elements of a peaceful stay but also celebrated nature, air and free space.

But though the concept has taken a backseat with the onslaught of modern times, it still finds pride of place in many homes.

“The nallukettu style is the first thing that came to my mind when I thought of building a home,” says the young and vibrant CEO-cum-director of Nest Infratech, Shamier Marickar.

The villa project, Nallukettu, he did in 2007 as the founder director of Kent Constructions was his first step towards his dream rooted in tradition.

“A complete sell out, it also underlined the fact that tradition still holds sway.” Shamier’s home at the Nallukettu exemplifies his statement and is an example of how well the contemporary can coexist with the traditional.

A traditional four-poster bed, a grandfather clock from China, crystal clear lamps that come with an antique finish and a Swarovski chandelier Shamier picked up from Austria are some artefacts that make this home special.

A lawyer-turned-builder, Shamier and his lovely wife Premin enjoy travelling the world and this has enabled them to widen their prospects in the infrastructure arena.

The entrepreneur who believes in giving his clients the very best is presently involved in many infrastructure projects in south India, one of them being the first Special Economic Zone in the private sector coming up in Kalamassery at the cost of Rs 2,500 crore.

Another of his pet project is the technologically advanced, integrated townships called world villas that are coming up near Alwaye and will feature Mediterranean villas, English style villas, contemporary villas and traditional Kerala-style Nallukettu villas. “You can see the world when you live in world,” signs off this vibrant businessman who is all set to fly high.
